I shall begin with the beginning...

The purpose of this blog is to keep connected with the book club students and discuss Battle of the Books books as well as any others we find exceptionally great (or not).

So here begins my book blogging experience:

It has been a while since I have been able to indulge myself in some book-reading excitement.  I took home a few books this summer to get done in all my spare time.  The first book on my list was a CYRM book.  I decided to read "The Running Dream" by Wendelin Van Draanen.  As a former athlete, I felt this book really touched on the importance of what a sport means to someone.  The detail in the character's insights was superb.  Although the tragedy of losing her leg was gut-wrenching, her growth through meeting Rosa was even more impressive.  The author did an outstanding job of portraying the selfish adolescence that high school students often have and then showing the dramatic self-realization that they sometimes have.  This was an excellent book that will easily connect with so many students.

For my second book, I tackled "Revolution" by Jennifer Donnelly.  This book really had me on the edge of my seat.  I was most impressed by the way the author intertwined what was happening to the character and the girl from the French Revolution who wrote the diary.  I loved the maturation of the protagonist and how she was able to cope with her ordeal.  The ending had a surprisingly bizarre twist, not unpleasant, just interesting.  Overall, I would give this book two big thumbs up!
